This Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation module, the 1771-DS, is a PLC-5 latching input module, also referred to as a digital input module. This 1771-DS module has the main function of detecting and latching pulses of a 0.1 to 5.0 millisecond duration period. When the 1771-DS module is in use and manages to detect a pulse at an input terminal, it sets a bit in the corresponding input image table address on the next I/O scan. The 1771-DS digital input module responds to pulses from the optical sensors that have outputs of isolated pulse or isolated gate. Generally, the off-state leakage current of the optical sensors in use should not be more than 1 mA at 4 Volts DC. The input modules of the 1771-DS operate in two ways, which could mean that they are either paired or independent. When independent, each of the 1771-DS modules operate alone until it is paired and they are used in a single pulse environment for detecting pulses. When paired, one input must respond to the signal of the gate while the other responds to the pulses. The paired inputs are used to detect selected pulses in a multi-pulse environment. The 1771-DS inputs include 8 direct digital signals and pulse rate captures for a time as low as 0.1 milliseconds to as high as 5.0 milliseconds. The Input Voltage Range is at two logics, 1 and 0, and it ranges from as high as 10 to 27 Volts DC to as low as 0 to 4 Volts DC. The 1771-DS has a Reverse Voltage Protection of 240 Volts DC maximum and a Maximum Off-State Current of 1 mA at 4 Volts DC. It also has a Nominal Input Current of 20 mA at 27 Volts DC typical, an Opto-Electrical Isolation of 1500 Volts and a Backplane Current of 375 mA.
