Allen Bradley’s 1746-IM4 Digital AC input module falls into the category of SLC 500 series parts. The 1746-IM4 has four (4) inputs installed on this module’s I/O chassis, all of which fall into the voltage category of 200 to 240 Volts per input. To operate, the module itself requires between 170 and 265 Volts AC at around 47 to 63 Hertz, while at 240 nominal Volts AC, it has an input current of 12 mA.

 

At 5 Volts DC, the 1746-IM4 has a backplane current consumption of about 0.035 A. At 24 Volts DC, it’s current consumption drops to around 0.0 A. Its signal delay varies between its “ON” and “OFF” states- for its ON state, it has a delay of approximately 35 milliseconds; for its OFF state, the delay is around 45 milliseconds. In its OFF state, the 1746-IM4 has a maximum voltage of 50 Volts AC and a current of 2 mA at its maximum.


This module has a maximum inrush current of 1.6 A, which must be compatible with the SLC 500 inrush input circuit current. Its 1.6 A inrush current has a duration of about 0.5 milliseconds per current; this current can be limited by a current limiting resistor but adding this type of device will affect the operation and characteristics of the 1746-IM4 and its AC input circuit. Overall, its power dissipation is approximately 1.6 total Watts or 0.175 at its minimum.

 

In storage, the 1746-IM4 must be kept in a temperature zone that is between the minimum of -40 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 85. During operation, the surrounding environment should not drop below 0 degrees Celsius or exceed 60. Additionally, this module offers NEMA ICS 2-230 standard noise immunity, and is certified by C-UL, CSA and UL-A196 for operation in hazardous potentially hazardous locations.
