The Allen Bradley 1746-INT4 is an SLC 500 Thermocouple/millivolt Analog Isolated Input Module. This device is used to store digitally converted millivolt and/or thermocouple analog data in its image table, providing access to all modular and fixed SLC 500 processors. It can support up to 4 thermocouple and analog millivolt sensors, houses 4 inputs, interfaces with thermocouple types B, C, D, E, J, K, N, R, S, T, and accepts millivolt signals that are not detectable by standard analog type modules. Additionally, it offers Cold-Junction Compensation (CJC), which keeps the thermocouple input signal accurate. It has a filter frequency of 8 Hertz and a 95% of 600 millisecond step response in the worst circuit case.

 
The 1746-INT4 must be field calibrated once per year. It has a backplane current of 85 mA at 24 Volts DC and 110 mA at 5 Volts DC. Its minimum and maximum thermal dissipation is 1.26 Watts, and it comes equipped with a removable terminal block. The 1746-INT4 is configured with software, as opposed to jumpers and switches. Each channel on the module should be configured to accept signals from either a millivolt analog device or from a thermocouple.
 
To avoid excess electrical interference, the chassis with the 1746-INT4 unit may need to be installed in an industrial enclosure. Other ways to avoid electrical interference include positioning the module away from any modules that are connected to relays or AC motor drives, or those modules that generate a significant amount of heat. The 1746-INT4 uses the Sigma-Delta A/D conversion method, offering 100 Volt transient isolation or 150 Volts AC channel-to-backplane, or channel-to-channel.
