The Allen-Bradley 1746-OBP8 is a high-current, solid-state output module. This module belongs to the SLC 500 group of programmable controllers. The 1746-OBP8 provides enhanced features for SLC product systems. These features include: increased current rating, fuse protection and diagnostics, high-speed switching, and excellent reliability. High-current, solid-state output modules such as the 1746-OBP8 increase the application radius in packaging, automotive and material handling applications. This extended reach is achieved by allowing the 1746-OBP8 to instantly control solenoids, motors, contractors and motor starter loads.
The 1746-OBP8 has 8 output points with 4 points per common and has an operating voltage of 24V DC. The backplane current for the 1746-OBP8 is 135mA at 5V and 0mA at 24V. In addition, the 1746-OBP8 has 0.300W per point, a minimum of 0.675W and a maximum of 3.08W. The output module has a maximum resistive load signal of 1.0ms when ON and 2.0ms when OFF. The 1746-OBP8 has a maximum off-state leakage of 1mA and a minimum current load of 1mA at 0-60º C (32-140º F). Additionally, the 1746-OBP8 has a continuous current of 1A at 60º C (140º F). The continuous current per module in the same temperature range for the output module is approximately 8.0 A. The maximum voltage drop for the 1746-OBP8 is 1.0V at 2.0A, 4.0A. The surge current per point for the module is 10ms and the surge current per module is 32.0A for 10ms.
The 1746-OBP8 has no electronic protection. The 1746-OBP8 series B can be used as a surge suppressor for inductive loads with a fast off delay.
