The Allen-Bradley 1788-CN2FF module is a linking device that is made to connect the ControlNet network to the Foundation Fieldbus H1 network. The 1788-CN2FF linking device is a member of the Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 1788 linking device product line. The 1788-CN2FF linking device ships from the factory with some settings that are preconfigured but that can be reset by the operators when the linking device is installed and powered up for the first time. Ensure that the power is disconnected before any of the configuration switches on the linking device are reset. The 1788-CN2FF linking device can connect 1 or 2 Foundation Fieldbus H1 networks at a time to the ControlNet network. There are multiple Fieldbus devices connected in a single Foundation Fieldbus H1 network and at least 1 function block per field device in the Foundation Fieldbus H1 network.
The function blocks in the Foundation Fieldbus H1 network or networks that the Allen-Bradley 1788-CN2FF linking device connects to the ControlNet network are used to perform key device control functions including the discrete input, discrete output, analog input, and analog output control functions. The ControlNet network, on the other hand, is made up of devices like HMIs, PLC processors, and different I/O devices. The 1788-CN2FF linking device that connects these 2 networks together is responsible for 3 primary functions which are the configuration function, the closed-loop control function, and a redundant ControlNet network function. This linking device is sensitive to electrostatic discharge which could damage it or interfere with its functioning, so the technicians who are installing or servicing the linking device must take every precaution to reduce static.
The Allen-Bradley 1788-CN2FF linking device connects the ControlNet network and all of its devices to all of the devices in either 1 or 2 Foundation Fieldbus H1 networks. It can be used to create a redundant ControlNet network setup.
