The Allen-Bradley 1788-CNF Logix 5000 ControlNet Daughter Card is a ControlNet communication card with fiber media that is designed to link the FlexLogix controllers to other external devices on the Control network. It also allows the FlexLogix processors to control an I/O device that is located far from the processor on the ControlNet network. The 1788-CNF communication card supports the I/O bridge functionality to effectively manage multiple I/O modules, the transfer of scheduled messages via message tags, the unscheduled MSG commands communication with other ControlNet nodes, the local communication network access through the network access port (NAP), and the fiber-supported media for optical isolation and increased noise immunity. The 1788-CNF Daughter Card has 440 milliamps of maximum backplane current and an operating voltage rating of 5.0 Volts DC. It has a maximum power consumption rating of 2.2 Watts and a maximum power dissipation rating of 7.51 BTU per hour.

The Allen-Bradley 1788-CNF Logix 5000 ControlNet Daughter Card can function as an I/O and messaging bridge. When used as a network bridge, it allows the FlexLogix controller to transfer messages to and from multiple devices over multiple networks including the Ethernet, RS-232 communication, and DeviceNet network by using the RSLogix configuration software. The 1788-CNF ControlNet Daughter Card with the FlexLogix controllers provide an I/O bridge for distributed I/O modules. The 1788-CNF ControlNet Daughter Card has 1 rear-side I/O status indicator and 1 network status indicator that is also on the rear-side. It also has a rear-side node address switch for assigning the node addresses. The 1788-CNF ControlNet Daughter Card has an open style design and an operating temperature range of 0 degree Celsius to 60 degree Celsius.
