The Allen-Bradley 1788-CNFR Logix 5000 ControlNet Module Card is a communication card that links the FlexLogix and DriveLogix controllers to devices that are connected to the ControlNet network. The 1788-CNFR ControlNet Communication Card also provides the FlexLogix and DriveLogix controllers with the access they need to monitor, control, and configure I/O modules that are remotely connected to the controller processor on the ControlNet network. Standard features for this module include the I/O bridge functionality that allows for managing multiple (distributed) I/O modules, and the network bridge capability which offers the ability to bridge communication to and from different networks including the Ethernet/IP network, DeviceNet network, and the RS-232 serial communication network. The 1788-CNFR Communication Card also supports the transfer of scheduled data via produced/consumed tags, unscheduled MSG commands with other nodes on the bus, simplified configuration and programming through downloading and uploading or application files using a PC, redundant and fiber media for enhanced optical isolation, and noise immunity.

The Allen-Bradley 1788-CNFR Communication Card can be used by the FlexLogix controller to communicate with the PanelView standard terminals, the PanelView Plus terminals, and the WorkStation terminals that run the RSView32 software, the RSView Enterprise application software, and the RSView Machine Edition (ME) software. The 1788-CNFR Communication Card requires a Class 2/SELV power source with 5.0 Volts DC supply voltage and 450 milliamps maximum backplane current at 5.0 Volts DC. The 1788-CNFR Communication Card has 2 node address switches for assigning node addresses between 01 and 99. It also has one rear module status LED and I/O status LED, which shows the module and I/O operation status. The 1788-CNFR Communication Card is designed for applications rated for temperatures of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius, and it weighs approximately 0.1 kilograms (0.2 pounds).
