The 1762-IR4 is a MicroLogix analog expansion module that is used exclusive for Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTD) and devices that generates resistance input signals. This module is compatible for use with MicroLogix 1100, 1200 and 1400 controllers. It is built with a sigma-delta type analog to digital converter and saves the converted data to the moduleÕs image table. Up to Four (4) RTD or Resistance signals are capable of being wired to this module. This module accepts inputs signals from a variety of RTD types specifically RTD Type 100½ Platinum 385, 200½ Platinum 385, 500½ Platinum 385, 1000½ Platinum 385100½ Platinum 3916, 200½ Platinum 3916,500½ Platinum 3916, 1000½ Platinum 3916, 10½ Copper 426, 120½ Nickel 672, 120½ Nickel 618, and 604½ Nickel-Iron 518 and Resistance range of 0 to 150½, 0 to 500½, 0 to 1000½, and 0 to 3000½. As it supports RTD signal, this module is basically a module used in Temperature application. It may also be used to integrate signals measure displacement or movement of an device or equipment. This module supports 2 or 3-wire RTD while also compatible with 4-wire sensors hover, the Fourth sense wire is not used. This module also comes with configurable excitation current values with option values of 0.5mA and 1.0 mA. Additionally, this module is equipped with open circuit, short-circuit, over and under-range detection. The moduleÕs auto-calibration is performed whenever a moduleÕs channel is enabled or a configuration change is introduced. Individual channel configuration is made via the RSlogix 500 Programming software. This may accomplished through the channel parameters of through a user program. The module is also provided with an easy to interpret LED indicators. When the LED is ON, the module is energized, passed the internal self-test and communicating over the MicroLogix bus. If the LED remains OFF, one of the conditions is not met. Basic operation of the module involves an internal self-test at power-up including its essential circuits, memory and basic functions. When power-up sequence is successfully carried out, the module checks for valid hardware configuration. If invalid configuration is detected, the module is capable of reporting and generating an error in relation to the hardware configuration. A properly configured module continuously converts input signal to digital format and saves the information to the input data file. If the data conversion is made without error, the converted data is enabled for use in the user program. The moduleÕs supported data formats are Raw / Proportional, Engineering Units, Engineering Units x10, Scaled for PID, and Percent Range. Engineering units has a maximum Raw value of 4096 counts, Engineering units x 10 has 16384, Scaled-for-PID has 8192 and Percent Range has 12288. Similar to other 1762 Expansion I/O modules, this module requires 2-inches clearance on all sides of the controller. Allowing proper air flow and module ventilation as this module dissipates heat of 1.5 Watts. Install an appropriate climate control such as a heater or cooler to improve ventilation and to manage internal temperature of the enclosure. Climate control device greatly depend on the environment conditions of local installation location.
