The 1762-MM1 is MicroLogix 1200 accessory that is specifically used as a removable memory module exclusively used with MicroLogix 1200 controller family. This memory has an integrated memory amounting to 6KB. It enables a practical user program backup and allows transport of program to other controllers without the need of the programming software. This memory module does not append the integrated memory of the controller however, provides a more advanced functionality that is helpful for an optimum operation of the controller.
The 1762-MM1Õs primary designed functions are User program and Data back-up, user program and compare, Data file with download Protection, implementing Write Protection of the memory module contents, Removal and insertion Under Power. This memory module is installed in the memory module slot, accessible by removing the memory module cover.
Only one user program is used to store in this memory module. With the removal and insertion under power support, this memory module may be removed and installed even in power is applied to the controller. When inserted to a live controller, the memory module is recognized after a power cycle.
When data is being transferred from the memory to the controller, the controllerÕs RUN LED flashes. It is recommended to not interrupt or remove the memory module when transfer is actively happening.

When installing the module, electrostatic protection must be applied as this may damage the module. Do not touch the pins and other areas. When handling this module, avoid placing the components to a conductive surface, an improperly grounded surface or near power supplies, supply and signal wires. All these may affect the module and damage the component, erasing the saved data within or ultimately render the module useless and readable by the controller.
The 1762-MM1 is initially accessed and configured using the RSLogix 500 programming software. It can be configured to load the program each time the controller restarts. This ensures that the user program and data is always available and prevents unplanned shutdown due to sudden program and data error. To load the contents of the memory module to the internal Random Access Memory (RAM) of the MicroLogix 1200 controller, an active connection must be established with the controller. Choose EEPROM parameter and initiate Load from EEPROM command.
Program compare is one of the functions supported by this memory module, allows comparison of the program saved in the module and the program within the PLCÕs memory. This allows qualified personnel to identify if changes are made to the active running program. This is important especially in the maintenance standpoint.
Data File and Download protection may also be enabled for this memory module. This permits the personnel to save data during download operation. This is only possible if the existing program has no active fault, the memory module data sizes exactly matches the data in the PLC local memory, and protected data type are similar.
