The Allen-Bradley 1766-L32AWAA is a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) with embedded features capable of implementing manual and automatic control of Discrete and Analog processes. This controller is part of bulletin 1766 MicroLogix 1400 product family. This controller features an embedded set of discrete inputs as well as analog I/O channels, aside from the standard MicroLogix 1400 integrated features.
One of the main features of this controller lies on the integrated analog channels. There are Two (2) Voltage input channels, with an input voltage range of 0-10.0V DC - 1 LSB. It has an input resolution of 12-Bit with data type of 12-bit unsigned integer. Field instrument that generate voltage signals to represent the magnitude of a process variable is compatible for direct wiring to the input channels of this controller. The analog data received is converted to digital equivalent which is stored to the 12-bit register, unsigned integer format. The analog input data may be assigned to any analog instruction, typically a scaling block to further condition the data, to become useful for logic processing. There are also Two (2) analog Voltage output channels, with an output voltage range of 0É10 V DC - 1 LSB. Analog outputs may be linked to the results of mathematical equation, data entry, compare instructions and controller output of a Proportional + Integral + Derivative (PID) controller. Before the output is sent out to the individual channels, the digital data is converter to analog value via the internal Digital to Analog converter. These embedded I/O channels are capable of implementing automated and manual control of modulating devices and may be even use for signal re-transmission for utilization of indicators, recorders, totalizers and other devices.
The integrated Discrete input channels remains similar to 1766-L40AWA. The integrated discrete inputs are Twenty (20) 120VAC discrete inputs and Twelve (12) Relay output channels.
This controller is powered by an input voltage range of 100-240VAC at an operating frequency of 47-63 Hz. When supplied with the appropriate voltage, the module is energized and power to the backplane is made available. The MicroLogix backplane is necessary as it serves as the power distribution of the controller not only within the compact housing but to the expansion modules as well.
The embedded communication channels of this controller are Isolated RS232 / RS485 combo port supporting DF1 Full and Half duplex mode, DH485, DNP3, ASCII and MODBUS RTU. The dedicated RS232 communication port also supports the same set of communication protocol. For connection to DeviceNet and DH485 communication network, Allen-Bradley network interface converters may be used to allow connection to the mention communication networks.
The 1766-L32AWAA is also equipped with an Ethernet communication port, which supports Ethernet IP, DNP3 and MODBUS over TCP communication protocols. This communication port is ideally used for simultaneous communication with multiple partner devices. Ethernet limit is 100m but may be extended if used with fiber optic communication or wireless ethernet.
RSLogix 500 or RSLogix Micro programming software is used to program, configure and commission the controller. These programming software are Microsoft Windows application with versions available for Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10.

The 1766-L32AWAA is a MicroLogix 1400 controller with embedded Two (2) channel analog input and outputs. The controllerÕs default capability includes discrete and analog control compared to the 1766-L32AWA that is capable only of discrete control by default. Of course, both controllers are expandable however, with the embedded analog control capability, the 1766-L32AWAA offers a more cost-effective and practical solution.
