The Allen-Bradley 1756-CFM I/O Module is an intelligent I/O module that performs high-speed flow metering for industrial applications. The CFM module is a single-slot module that creates an interface between a Logix controller and an external I/O device. This module can interface with output types such as Magnetic pickup, TTL, and Preamps. The Allen-Bradley 1756-CFM I/O Modules mount in a ControlLogix chassis and connect all field-side wiring by using a RTB (Removable Terminal Block) or a 1492 Interface Module cable that connects to an IFM module. The module has some unique features that allow for greater system applicability. One of these features is RIUP (Removal and Insertion Under Power) which is possible even while power is applied and the CFM modules may be inserted and removed from the chassis. While the module is being removed or inserted, since there is no additional disruption to the rest of the controlled process, this feature allows for greater overall control.

Module Fault Reporting is useful when something goes wrong with the Allen-Bradley 1756-CFM. I/O modules provide both hardware and software indication. The RSLogix 5000 software and hardware graphically display the fault along with a message describing the nature of the fault. The LED fault indicator of each module also lets the users know when there is a fault. This feature is very effective since it lets the users know how the module has been affected and what action should be taken. The module is fully software-configurable for a custom easily understood interface with the RSLogix 5000 software. All the features of the Allen-Bradley 1756-CFM I/O modules can be enabled or disabled by using the I/O configuration of the software. The software can also be used to integrate any module into the system to retrieve information like serial numbers, revision information, catalog numbers, vendor identification, and more.
