The 1756-ENET is an Ethernet communication interface module that belongs to the 1756 series of ControlLogix Ethernet communication interface modules. This module has been designed and manufactured by Allen-Bradley. The primary two tasks performed by the Allen-Bradley 1756-ENET Ethernet communication interface module are the control of real-time I/O data and support for messaging data for configuration and programming information. This module supports both direct connections and those optimized with racks.  In order to perform these tasks, the module uses the Control and Information Protocol (CIP) which is a one of the layer protocols specified for Ethernet/IP. Before installing the Allen-Bradley 1756-ENET Ethernet communication interface module, users must install and connect a ControlLogix chassis and power supply. Users can install more than one 1756-ENET module on this chassis.

The Allen-Bradley 1756-ENET Ethernet communication interface module features a backplane connector, a product label, a front panel, an AUI Ethernet connector, a MAC ID label, and a 10BT Ethernet Connector. The Allen-Bradley 1756-ENET Ethernet communication interface module features an LED status indicator that displays the module status and transmit/receive status. It has an RXD indicator, a TXD indicator, and an OK indicator. The OK indicator shows the status of the module whereas the TXD indicator shows data transmit and the RXD indicator the reception of data. If these two are green, it means these are active, if these are off, it means that the module is not active. If the “OK” indicator is off, it means the module is not operating; if it is flashing red or green, the module is performing powerup diagnostics; if it is green, it is operating, if it is flashing red, it is not configured; and if it is just red, the fault is unrecoverable and the module needs to be replaced.
