The 1756-IF8I is an individually isolated I/O module along with 8 differential channels. It is manufactured by Allen-Bradley and it belongs to the ControlLogix family. It changes analog signals to digital values as input and converts those digital values to analog signals as output. Controllers use these output signals for various control purposes. The 1756-IF8I provides 24-bit resolution and uses 4 differential inputs or 2 high-speed differential input which has a greater resistance against electromagnetic noise. It has greater flexibility in the wiring process. It has input resolutions of +/- 10.25 Volts with a 320 µ Volts/count, 0 to 10.25 Volts with a 160 µ Volts/count, 0 to 5.125 Volts with an 80 µ Volts/count, and 0 to 20.5 milliamps with a 0.32 µ Amperes/count.
This I/O module has many different features. It has an internal loop power source which can be user-configured and it also supports multiple input ranges. It can support a current in the range of 0 to 20 mA and a voltage in the range of +/- 10 Volts. For safety purposes, the 1756-IF8I has an underrange and overrange detection feature detects when module is operating against the set values and prevents from unwanted impact to the module. It has digital filters (smooths date noise transients), process alarms (alerts when the module has exceeded configured high or low limits), notch filter (removes line noise), rate alarms (alerts if the rate of change among input samples exceeds the trigger), sensor offset (compensates for known errors), and synchronized sampling. It also has a wire-off detection facility which informs when a wire is disconnected from a channel.
