The 1756-L63 is a processor module and controller for the ControlLogix platform which is manufactured by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation. The processor comes in Series A and Series B, and it has the capability to complete 100 programs per task, perform 32 individual tasks, and complete event tasks for all event triggers. The aforementioned tasks are major controller tasks that this module can perform. The 1756-L63 weighs approximately 0.78 pounds (0.35 kilograms) and it uses the 1756-BA2 replacement battery. Like other controllers from this product line, the open-style 1756-L63 is also chassis-based and it can be installed in any slot. The 1756-L63 controller features an 8 MB memory which is available for data and logic storage. In addition to this, the module has I/O memory of 478 KB, and the users may upgrade the controller with an optional nonvolatile memory. However, it must be noted that the controller is only compatible with a 128 MB 1784-CF128 CompactFlash memory card. The controller features a basic insulation type which was tested at 720 Volts DC for 60 seconds, and it has 30 Volts continuous isolation voltage.

The controller has power dissipation of 3.5 Watts, whereas the thermal dissipation amounts to 11.9 BTU per hour. The 1756-L63 has a current draw of 1200 mA at 5.1 Volts DC, and a draw of 14 mA at 24 Volts DC. When it comes to communication, the 1756-L63 comes with a built-in RS-132 port, though the controller features other communication modules such as the ControlNet, SynchLink, and the Data Highway Plus modules to name a few. This means the users may pick and choose the most suitable communication module, and also switch the modules in accordance with their needs. The maximum vibration this processor can handle is 2 g at 10 to 500 Hertz, and its maximum operating shock is 30 g. This proves that the 1756-L63 is designed for harsh environments. The module can withstand operating temperatures of up to 60 degrees Celsius (140 degrees Fahrenheit) in an environment with 5 to 95% relative humidity.
