The Rockwell Automation, Allen-Bradley 1771-DA unit is a universal Input-Output (I/O) modular product of the PLC product line. The 1771-DA is generally a PLC-5 ASCII I/O module that is used to transfer data from any ASCII machines to a processor data table that has a programmable controller, all via an I/O scan. The 1771-DA also has a data table that is both expandable and effective enough to grant transferability of blocks via the ASCII module. It has a communication port protocol, an RS-232-C port, a wiring arm (catalog number 1771-WN), and a conformal coat. Through the RS-232-C 200 mA loop that carries current and the A-B long line, the 1771-DA also provides an interface and guarantees various communications rates that are selectable; these rates of communication include 110, 300, 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, and 9600 Bauds.

The 1771-DA is located in the I/O slot of the 1771 chassis. Here, it draws an average of 1.0 Amps from the back-plane or a maximum of 1.3 Amps of backplane current. The 1771-DA also has a buffer memory of 1.5k words per 3 kb along with a variety of additional features that allow the use of top connectors for I/O module keying. These top connectors belonging to the 1771-DA may have either 8 to 10 pins or 30 to 32 pins. In order to function better, the 1771-DA also has both an active and a passive transmitter circuit, which have input rates of 23 mA and 55 mA respectively. The nominal voltage is 2.25 while the reverse voltage is 2.7 Volts DC across about 11 to 18 pins. It’s stored under temperatures of -40 to 185 Fahrenheit, weighs about 0.9 kilograms, and can operate under temperatures of -40 to 185 Fahrenheit.  Its dimensions are 3.5 x 6.5 x 2.0 inches.
