The 1771-DR is a product of the Allen-Bradley branch of Rockwell Automation, which also belongs to the 1771 series. The 1771-DR is generally a universal input and output (I/O) modular product line, which seeks to provide a full range of I/O functionalities for a wide range of applications. The 1771-DR module can be used in a processor-resident local I/O chassis of a PLC-5 controller; this can be at a remote location that is different from the processor in an I/O chassis, with an adapter that is attached on the ControlNet link with the processor. The 1771-DR module can also be used at a remote location from the processor in an I/O chassis with an adapter on a universal remote I/O link with the processor. The adapters on the ControlNet link are either the 1771-ACN15 or the ACNR15 I/O adapter, while that on the universal remote I/O link is the 1771-ASB I/O adapter.
The 1771-DR has a number of features that define it. For instance, it has a wide range of modules, including digital, analog, thermocouple, and RTD I/O types. It also has a ControlNet Universal Remote I/O. When the 1771-DR has been installed, it is an effective universal I/O modular product line and an individual does not need to disconnect wiring when they are trying to replace the module or any other module in the system. This is because the 1771-DR universal I/O module has the Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP) features.
