With an AC capacity of 120 V, the Allen-Bradley 1771-IAN sink input device and this means that it requires a source output for the positive voltage path. The sink input device provides a grounding path and is to be used in a series with the B 1771I/O chassis. The 1771-IAN may not be used with 2-slot addressing and its use with the single-slot addressing is restricted. However, it has unrestricted use for the 11/2 –slot addressing.
The 1771-IAN module comes with 32 inputs per module and an equal number of status indicators on its front plate which represent the inputs’ control status. Therefore, when each indicator flashes, that means that voltage is present at the corresponding input. The 1771-IAN requires 280mA from the output of its supply and users will need to calculate the power requirements correctly to avoid over-loading the backplane and the backplane power supply. Its voltage range is between 85 and 135V of alternating current at 50/60Hz and its maximum off-state voltage is 30V AC. Keying for the 1771-IAN module may be done from nearly any chassis slot except those on the leftmost side which is for adaptors and/or processors. Users can change the keying, but generally it is between the ranges of 16 and 18 or of 20 and 22.
For installation of this module, make sure the module card is guiding from both the top and the bottom of the chassis to put it into position. After that, limit the maximum adjacent slot power dissipation to 10W because each 1771-IAN condenses 2 full module groups (22 inputs) into each slot of the chassis. It is possible to use multiple power supplies but do not exceed the specified isolation voltage. A different power supply can be used to each of the commons, 0;1;2;3; but be sure to calculate the voltage requirements properly to avoid overloading the chassis backplane power supply.
