The 1771-IXEK is a conformally-coated PLC 5 analog input module manufactured by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation. Due to conformal coatings that are made of polymeric films, the part is kept clean and dry. Some of the main technical characteristics of the 1771-IXEK are the thermocouple millivolt input, 8 floating differential inputs, a channel update/permission of 50 milliseconds/8 channel, 15 bits + sign (1.0 degrees Celsius/Fahrenheit/bit), and a backplane current of 750 milliamperes. External power is not required, the 1771-IXEK is rack mountable, it uses the 1771-WI wiring arm, the typical DC signal delay (off-state) is 50 milliseconds, and the typical AC Signal Delay (off-state) is 45 (+/- 15) milliseconds. The 1771-IXEK module is a thermocouple/millivolt input module. It helps to send input information from the storage module to the PLC processor’s info table and to send back data thanks to the block transfer programs. The maximum power spreading is 4.25 Watts and the maximum thermal spreading is 14.5 BTU/hour. The 1771-IXEK does not require any external power supply, but it demands a single slot for adding in a 1771 I/O chassis. It is necessary to note, that there are 8 floating differential inputs needed for thermocouple or millivolt input ranges here. They contain types E, J, K, T, R, and S thermocouples and ±100 millivolts. Operators can use either 8 identical inputs or 4 each of 2 different types. The 1771-IXEK also has cold junction compensation with a range of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius and ±0.5 degrees Celsius of accuracy. The 1771-IXEK functions well as a temperature scale, and the users can choose to measure temperature in degrees Celsius or degrees Fahrenheit with a temperature permission of 1 degree Celsius or 1 degree Fahrenheit and a millivolt permission of 10µVolts. The backplane requires a current load of 750 mA at 5 Volts DC. The channel update time is 50 milliseconds per 8 channels. The wiring is joined with the 1771-WI field wiring arm, so there is no need to disconnect the wires while changing the module, the keying bands should be situated between pins 20 and 22 and pins 24 and 26 to support only this module.
Another advantage of the 1771-IXEK module is that it contains high and low-temperature alarms, which users can easily set according to their needs. On the front panel, there is a green RUN and a red FLT indicator to control the power and fault position. When the users switch it on, it makes self-diagnostics and reports the state of the system and all of its parts. If the 1771-IXEK has a thermocouple failure, it performs open-circuit detection. Moreover, it automatically finds an offset and gain setting for each channel so that the potentiometers are not needed. When installing the 1771-IXEK, do not use relay contact output modules at power levels higher than the maximum stated levels. Furthermore, to define the operating capability of the relay, do not forget to consult the technical specifications of the product.
