The Allen-Bradley 1771-OVN Series B DC output module is a modular sink output that requires a correctly installed system chassis. It needs a source input to supply a positive voltage path as well as a sink output to provide a path to ground. The 1771-OVN from Allen-Bradley converts DC signals to the desirable logic level suitable for use within a processor. Examples of input devices available with the 1771-OVN module include selector switches, proximity switches, float switches, limit switches, and pushbutton switches. Input filtering minimizes the voltage transient effect caused by electrical noise or contact bounce. If not filtered, these voltage transients could end up producing false data. Module logic circuits and backplane circuits are protected from electrical transient damage by electrical isolation.

This module was designed by Allen-Bradley to regulate the ON/OFF status of direct current (DC) user devices. With output devices such as motor starters, indicators, and solenoids, the 1771-OVN is compatible with numerous gadgets. Digital modules derive power from the chassis backplane. Inserting or removing the module whilst the backplane power is on may result in an electric arc. This could even cause an explosion in risky installation locations. Make sure to disconnect any power before proceeding. The arm pivots available on the I/O chassis connect the front terminals and serves as a terminal strip. In addition, the wiring arm allows users to safely remove the module from the chassis without cutting off the wiring connections. Users can either select 1 or 2 input-failure configurations by placing a configuration plug at the upper end of the circuit board. Do not position the 1771-OVN module on the same input/output chassis as the 1771-IX thermocouple module. The left-side terminals are even numbered (from 2 to 40), and those on the right-side are odd numbered (from 1 to 39). The module’s front panel comprises 32 status indicators that provide system logic indication.
