The 1771-OW16 is an authentic Allen-Bradley module that can be used in a 1771-AM1 and 1771-AM2 chassis. The 1771-OW16 does not have any surge limiting circulatory, making it versatile in terms of industrial applications. With properly selected surge limiting devices, operators can use the 1771-OW16 to control resistive, capacitive, and inductive loads. The 1771-OW16’s outputs have been arranged in 2 groups, each consisting of 8 outputs. Plus, each output has been independently isolated. The first arrangement of outputs consists of normally open contacts, while the second arrangement comprises selectable normally-open/normally-closed contacts. To separate loads, this module can concurrently switch all the 16 outputs. Each output has the ability to conduct a 2.0 Amps load at 500 Voltage-Amperes for AC loads and 80 Watts for DC loads. However, the module’s total output power cannot exceed 1440 Voltage-Amperes.

Varying load conditions might shorten the relay life. It is advisable that the module be operated under constant load conditions. After operating relays in high power conditions, users should not operate them at a low current or low voltage. But it is acceptable to operate from low power to high power conditions. Do not use the 1771-OW16 in environments that are contaminated with substances such as chlorine, acid, nitrogen, or ammonia. Both the minimum current and voltage requirements are provided to ensure that there is always an excellent conduction surface between the module’s contacts. Though the relays can function at voltage or current levels less than the specified minimum values, module reliability is not guaranteed. Note that exceeding the maximum power ratings can shorten the relay’s life. Utilize a resistor-capacitor (RC) network across all the contacts to minimize arcing. Not using an RC filter network might result in the production of electromagnetic noise (EMI) that can disrupt surrounding electrical equipment.
