The 1785-RC relay cartridge module uses a backplane current of 0.200 Amps, which must be applied at 5 Volts DC. The cartridge comes with one output as well as a contact rating of 120 Volts AC. This module must operate at an optimal frequency of 50 to 60 Hertz and 0.500 Amps pilot duty. Its minimum mechanical switching cycle is 10,000 while its optimal operating temperature is 0 to 60 degrees Celsius or 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. The 1785-RC, which weighs about 70 grams, is designed to automatically detect and open a relay contact each time the PLC-5 controller senses explicit software operation-based requests, including ladder program edit requests originating from the RSLogix5, AI5, and 6200 series software (i.e. ladder rung insert, delete, modification, as well as modification of the processor’s name) and I/O forces state changes – such as force bits state changes.

The Allen-Bradley 1785-RC has several agency certifications. Those are the UL 508, C-UL under CSA C22.2 no. 142, Class I, Div. 2, Groups A, B, C, D (UL 1604, C-UL under CSA C22.2 no. 213), and CE/RCM/EAC compliant for all applicable directives. The Allen-Bradley 1785-RC is intended for operation in potentially explosive atmospheres as defined by European Union Directive 94/9 / EC. The LCIE (Laboratoire Central des Industries Electriques) stated that this equipment has been found to comply with the Essential Health and Safety Requirements relating to the design and construction of Category 3 equipment. Keep in mind that under proper precautions, there may be potential difficulties in ensuring electromagnetic compatibility in other environments due to disruption and radiation.
