The Allen-Bradley PLC-5-40E is a 1785 series Ethernet PLC-5 Programmable Logic Controller. This part is also known as the 1785-L40E. The PLC-5 series of controllers that the PLC-5-40E belongs to offers a wide range of possible communication options and the PLC-5-40E controller is specialized for Ethernet connectivity. This is why it can be connected easily to networks with SLC 500, ControlLogix, and MicroLogix controllers. For communication purposes, it is equipped with 1 Ethernet and 2 DH+ or Remote I/O connecting ports. The Allen-Bradley PLC-5-40E provides a user memory with maximum of 48K words and it can process up to 2048 I/O points. Users can practice programming and create functional ladder-based projects for the PLC-5-40E over the RSLogix 5 software. This software will help users create project documentation and to configure and print project reports. The Allen-Bradley PLC-5-40E is enclosed in an IP00 rated housing. This PLC must be operated at 0 to 60 degrees Celsius (32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit) temperatures. Users can store the device at -40 to 85 degrees Celsius (-40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit) temperatures. It requires 12.4 inches x 7.6 inches x 8.5 inches (315 millimeters x 193 millimeters x 217 millimeters) of module space in the 1771 chassis. The backplane current of this module is 3.6 Amps (at 5 Volts). Its power dissipation is 19 Watts.
