The Allen-Bradley 1746-C7 is a chassis interconnect cable. It connects the 1746 chassis to extend it from one to another. The 1746-C7 is 6 inches in length. It is used when connecting the 1746-A4, 1746-A10 or the 1746-A13 chassis. As an alternative you can use the 1746-C9 or the 1746-C16 cables. The 1746-C7 is a ribbon cable and links modular style chassis that are 6 inches apart.
When connecting, install the 1746-C7 rack interconnecting cable before installing the power supply. The 1746-C7 is keyed to minimize errors during installation. The end of the 1746-C7 cable that enters the left socket has the key on the outside of the connector while the opposite end of the 1746-C7 cable has the key on the inside of the connector. To prevent the harmful effects of shock and vibration, ensure that the 1746-C7 is effectively secured. When disconnecting the 1746-C7, move the tabs on the socket outwards.
The 1746-C7 has to exit the chassis from the right end of the chassis and connect to the left side of the next I/O chassis. This side of the rack holds the CPU. For proper spacing, a distance of between 2.5-4 inches should be left between the controllers being connected. The 1746-C7 is ideal when connecting the controllers/chassis side by side. It is shorter than the 1746-C9 and the 1746-C16 which are used to connect controller/chassis one above the other. Substituting the 1746-C7 cable with other non-recommended cables will impair the integrity of data communication between the chassis which may lead to unreliable or unsafe operation.
