The 1746-MPM is a Mold Pressure Module from Allen-Bradley. Its main function is to extract and process cyclic injection molding data which is later projected onto personal computers. Additionally, the 1746-MPM helps in monitoring crucial molding parameters by responding to alarms. To obtain faster setup time for optimum part quality and to maintain the production run quality, the 1746-MPM is used together with an Injection Molding Control System (pro-set 200). The 1746-MPM is interfaced with the DARTWin software to ensure its maximum performance. After the interfacing, alarms are set on crucial parameters to help in deviation detection in the process of producing parts. The critical mold pressure can also be set to assets in injection process transfer with every machine cycle.


The 1746-MPM receives pressure inputs (analog) from the SLC processor or sensors through the backplane through 2 independent channels. The 1746-MPM returns alarm signals plus processed molding parameters to the processor (SLC) and the PC to assist in application programming. The 1746-MPM also processes a frame of summary data for every molding cycle with provisions to display the previous frame. The 1746-MPM uses M0 and M1 files for communication with the ladder logic.


The processor (SLC) accesses mold pressure data by way of counts which range from 0-4095 from the 1746-MPM A/D converter. The module accommodates inputs up to a maximum of 10V DC and outputs (+T/R, +EXC, -T/R) having a minimum of 1K ohms (load) with connection to the analog common. Part of the data that is stored on the 1746-MPM module’s M0/M1 files include the cycle time, pressure (peak injection, min. cycle, peaking time), trigger times, integrals of trigger, and integrals of injection.
