The Allen Bradley 1746-NR8 is a RTD input module (analog). It has 8 input points and belongs to the SLC 500 series, drawing a backplane current of 100 mA at 5 Volts DC and 55 mA at 24 Volts DC. It has a backplane power consumption of 0.5 Watts at 5 Volts DC and a maximum 1.32 Watts at 24 Volts DC. Its 8 channels are all backplane isolated, and the module can be installed in all I/O module slots apart from slot 0 in the I/O chassis.
The 1746-NR8 uses sigma-delta modulation for its A/D conversion method. It has a low-pass digital filter with programmable filter frequencies and a common mode rejection greater than 120 dB at 50 Hertz or 60 Hertz between the chassis ground and the inputs. It has a maximum of +/- 1 Volt common mode voltage, a voltage of +/- 5 Volts DC, a current of +/- 5 mA permanent overload (max), a cut-off frequency of 7.80 to 1676 Hertz at 28 to 6400 Hertz input filter frequency, and it auto-calibrates itself immediately when power is supplied or on channel enabling by detecting a change on its input/filter frequency or current (excitation).
The optical isolation between the backplane and the inputs is tested at 500 Volts for a single minute. It has a +/- 5 Volt DC separation between inputs and has 9 LED indicators: one for each channel, and one for the 1746-NR8 module status. It has a 25 Ohms (maximum) cable resistance for a 3-wire RTD setting and uses the 1746-RT35 terminal block. The 1746-NR8 operates at temperatures of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius and is stored at -40 to 85 degrees Celsius. It has a rating of 5% to 95% relative humidity in a non-condensing environment.
This unit accommodates copper, iron-nickel, nickel and platinum RTD input types. Individual input channels on the 1746-NR8 provide an excitation current, resistance detection on the lead-wire, and a return connection through an RTD connection with which communication between the 1746-NR8 RTD module and the SLC processor is initiated.
Data exchanges with the 1746-NR8 analog input module are accomplished with use of an image table which has 8 I/O words when class 1 configured; when configured to be used in a class 3 operation, it has 16 input and 24 output words.
