The Allen-Bradley 1746-OB16 is a DC Output Module from the SLC 500 product family. The 1746-OB16 includes 16 outputs with 24V DC. The 1746-OB16 has 16 points per common and an operating voltage between 10-50V. The backplane current for the output module is 0.280A at 5V DC and 0.0A at 24V DC. The 1746-OB16 has a maximum ON-state voltage drop of 1.2V at 0.50A and a surge current per point of 3.0A for 10ms. For the 1746-OB16, surge current repeatedly occurs once every 1 second at 30°C (86°F) and twice every 2 seconds at 60°C (140°F). The minimum load current of the module is 1mA. The 1746-OB16 has a continuous current per module of 8.0A at 30°C (86°F) and 4.0A at 60°C (140°F). The continuous current per point is 0.5A at 30°C (86°F) and 0.25A at 60°C (140°F). To avoid a surge current when switching 24V DC inductive loads for transistor outputs, add a 1N4004 diode wired reversely across the load.
The 1746-OA16 and 1746-OB16 of the SLC product family are both output modules and they both feature 16 output points. The major difference to distinguish between the two when making your selections is that the 1746-OA16 is AC powered while the 1746-OB16 is DC powered. Operating conditions for the 1746-OB16 should remain in temperatures ranging between 0-60°C (32-140°F) with relative humidity between 5-95% in a noncondensing environment.
