The Allen-Bradley 1746-OVP16 is a high current sinking DC output module. The 1746-OVP16 has 16 output points with 16 points per common. The module has a fused common plus an LED indicator to indicate a blown fuse. The 1746-OVP16 has a voltage category of 24V DC and an operating voltage range of 20.4-26.4V DC. The 1746-OVP16 has a backplane current rating of 250mA at 5V DC and 0mA at 24V DC, a maximum on-state output voltage drop of 1V at 1A, and a minimum load current of 1mA. Additionally, the module has a maximum off-state leakage current (output) of 1mA. With a maximum resistive load, the 1746-OVP16 has a signal-on delay of 0.1 milliseconds and a 1.0 milliseconds signal-off delay.


The 1746-OVP16 does not have a continuous current per module but it has a continuous current per point of 1.5A at 30 degrees Celsius and of 1.0A at 60 degrees Celsius. Additionally, the 1746-OVP16 has a surge current per point of 4.0 A for a period of 10 seconds. To minimize the dangers of a leakage current, a resistor (loading) is connected with the load (in a parallel setting). At ½ W, a 5.6 kilo ohms resistor is used in transistor outputs that operate at 24V DC to minimize the leakage current. The 1746-OVP16 has 0.31W per point, with a 1.25W minimum thermal dissipation and a 6.21W maximum thermal dissipation. The 1746-OVP16 uses a surge suppressor to initiate a fast off delay. A surge suppressor at the load is required only when there is an extra connected contact. The extra contact should be connected in series.
