The Allen-Bradley 1747-L552 is a processor that is part of Allen-Bradley's SLC 500 series of controllers. The 1747-L552 provides users with high bandwidth networking for systems, bringing 10 Mbps Ethernet connectivity to the popular SLC 500 family of programmable controllers.  The 1747-L552 is well-rated for its user-memory backup of 64k in the C series or later.  Additionally, it has a maximum user memory of 32K words total (28K words of information or programmed, 4K words for information only). The processor features 4096 inputs and 4096 outputs.  The 1747-L552 has a standard RAM and a flash backup memory. The 1747-L552 supports communication speeds of 100 Mbps over the Ethernet with Auto-Negotiation, increased Ethernet connections (48 connections for the 1747-L552), and provides HTTP server capabilities.

The 1747-L552 has a built-in 10Base-T Ethernet channel, 10 Mbps communications through support of TCP/IP protocol, and it utilizes many widely available Ethernet devices and cabling. Another great feature of this processor is the availability of online programming over Ethernet with RSLogix 500 Programming Software, and the processor also supports Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) for management of your networks. Through the SLC 500 message instruction, the 1747-L552 achieves high-speed peer-to-peer communication. 

Additional features of the 1747-L552 include 3 maximum chassis with 30 slots, LED operating indicators, and a typical scan time of 0.9 ms/K. The processor has power supply loading at 5V dc of 1A and power supply loading at 24V DC of 200 mA.  In case of power loss, the 1747-L552 has a program scan hold-up time ranging from 20 milliseconds to 3 seconds dependent on power supply loading.  Built for industrial environments, the processor has great immunity to noise with the NEMA standard ICS 2-230, ambient operating temperatures ranging from 0-60˚C (32-140˚F) and a storage temperature ranging between -40-85˚C (-40-185˚F).

The Allen-Bradley 1747-L552 processor is an SLC 500 series modular processor. The maximum current consumption of the processor is 1 Amp at 5 Volts DC and 0 milliamps at 24 Volts DC. The power rating of the processor is 4 Watts. The 1747-L552 processor supports a maximum of 48 connections and it allows for simultaneous communication with up to 64 other applications and devices. Out of the 48 connections, 4 are dedicated incoming connections, 4 are dedicated output connections and 40 can be either outgoing or incoming connections. The Ethernet interface on the 1747-L552 processor can be either configured through the RSLogix 500 software or through the BOOTP/DHCP request at the time of processor startup. A fixed IP address must be assigned to the Ethernet interface. The IP address must not be dynamically assigned.

Advanced SLC 5/05 processors like the 1747-L552 processor include an enhanced version of the embedded web server which allows for the viewing of the data table in addition to the viewing of the module configuration and TCP/IP configuration. Due to thermal requirements, Allen-Bradley does not recommend the installation of the 1747-L552 processor in a vertical orientation. The temperature of the air surrounding the processor should be kept between 32 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Allen-Bradley recommends 6.25 to 10.2 centimeters of spacing between 2 adjacent SLC 500 controllers. Additionally, the minimum spacing between an SLC 500 controller and the adjacent vertical cabinet wall should be greater than 10.2 centimeters. Blower fans need to be used in applications where convection cooling and proper spacing are not sufficient for the dissipation of the heat produced by all the equipment installed inside the cabinet.
