The GE EP-5261 Serial Communication Module is a single-input RS232/RS485/RS422 interface serial communication module from the RSTi-EP Remote I/O system. This module offers 1 RS232/RS485/RS422 serial interface input with an adjustable transfer rate of 300 to 115,200 Bauds per second. It is part of the Special Functions Modules product line.

The EP-5261 Serial Communication Module has one RS232/RS485/RS422 interface input and it is part of the GE Fanuc RSTi-EP Remote I/O system. The EP-5261 Serial Communication Module allows serial data to be exchanged between a PLC and any data terminal device over the bus. Data terminal devices such as barcode scanners or printers can be attached through the RS232/RS485/RS422 interface on this special functions module. Switching between the RS485 and RS422 interface can be parametrized by using a terminating resistor. The EP-5261 Serial Communication Module has 2 LED light indicators that show the communication status. The EP-5261 Serial Communication Module’s single serial interface input port supports RS232, RS485, or RS422 serial communication. The serial communication type can be assigned by using the parameterization method. This port has a minimum and maximum data transmission rate of 300 and 115200 Bauds per second, respectively, and these rates can be assigned via parameterization.


The GE Fanuc EP-5261 Serial Communication Module has a supply voltage rating of 5 Volts DC or 24 Volts DC, and a maximum current rating of 500 milliamps. The standard RS232 communication mode provides a V.24/V.28 serial interface according to the DIN 66020, DIN 66259, EIA-RS232C, and CCITT standards, while the RS485/RS422 communication modes have a maximum resistance rating of 120 Ohms. The EP-5261 Serial Communication Module’s serial interface port offers built-in short-circuit protection, module diagnosis, and individual port diagnosis. Like all the RSTi-EP I/O modules, the EP-5261 Serial Communication Module draws power from the integrated power supply module. It has an acceptable operating voltage range between 20.4 Volts DC and 28.8 Volts DC and a maximum current rating of 8.0 milliamps (from the system current path). The EP-5261 Serial Communication Module has a protected input that prevents damages from overcurrent or overvoltage surges above 30 Volts DC. It has 500 Volts DC of rated Galvanic isolation between the current paths.
