The Genius IC670GBI002 interface is a 24 Volts DC Bus Interface Unit (BIU) manufactured as part of the Field Control series by the GE Fanuc. A BIU helps to interface the Field Control I/O modules to the PC or host PLC via the Genius bus. It can exchange up to 128 bytes of input data as well as 128 output data bytes in every bus scan. The Genius IC670GBI002 BIU is the core of the GE Field Control series because it provides functions such as I/O scanning, intelligent processing, and configuration of the features of 8 I/O modules. The BIU and its modules make up a Field Control system and the station. Generally, this series comes with many benefits and features ranging from better uptime, low costs, feature flexibility, DIN rail mounting, distributed I/O, and installation and maintenance. Other features are minimal spare parts requirements, reduced wiring, and an open architecture that is adaptable to a wide range of networks.
The GE Fanuc IC670GBI002 Bus Interface Unit features a BUI terminal block which supports connections for single and dual communication cables or power wiring cables. This unit comes with an integral bus switching circuitry that allows for the use of BUI on the redundant or dual Genius Bus without an external bus switching module. This BIU terminal block can store the configuration parameters that have been picked for a station. A Bus interface unit like the IC670GBI002 Bus Interface Unit can be used on the bus and controlled by bus controllers or the redundant CPUs. It also allows the device to be used on a dual bus.
