Technical Information

The IC600CB536 control module is a Type 2 communication control module that is manufactured as a member of the GE Fanuc Series Six product line. This module supports 2 types of system configurations which are the multidrop and point-to-point configurations. For the point-to-point configurations, only a maximum of 2 devices can be connected on the same communication line, which is then connected through the RS-232 or RS-422 port. Additionally, for longer distances, modems can be used. The multidrop configuration allows for more than 2 devices to be connected to the same communication line. The host device should be configured as a master device and 1 or more IC600CB536 communication control modules configured as slave devices. Additionally, the master device can be used for the initiation of communication while the slave devices cannot. This communication control module can be connected in 3 different multidrop configurations including the RS-232 configuration using modems, the RS-422 direct configuration, and the RS-232 configuration using microwave/radio transmitters and modems.

 

The GE Fanuc IC600CB536 communication control module is connected by using the RS-422 direct multidrop configuration when the maximum distance between the last slave device and the master device is not more than 4000 feet. This communication distance is intended for good quality cables as well as for a moderately noisy environment. Additionally, a total of 8 slave devices can be connected by using the RS-422 communication option in a multidrop or daisy chain configuration. The RS-422 line can be either the 2-wire or the 4-wire type. This communication control module is connected by using the RS-232 modems for long-distance communications basically over long telephone lines. The total number of slave units that can be accommodated depends on the modem capabilities.
