The General Electric/GE Fanuc IC630CPU301 Series Three Central Processing Unit (CPU) is a 4K-word processor and programmer unit for the GE Series Three PLC System. The IC630CPU301 CPU contains the system’s microprocessor, which performs the logic, communication, and data processing functions for every Series Three PLC application. The IC630CPU301 CPU receives input data from the field devices connected to the control system and it makes a logical decision based on predefined and user-defined control parameters. The IC630CPU301 performs iterative scanning operations and each scanning time varies based on the size and complexity of the program that is being scanned. The Series Three I/O system consists of 1 to 3 base units that are connected to form a local I/O station made up of a CPU, a power supply, I/O modules, and a system interface module.
In the biggest configuration of the Series Three I/O system, there are 3 base units connected by an I/O expander cable, and the IC630MDL302 CPU is installed only on the primary base unit or wired for handheld operation using a 1.5-meter CPU connector cable. Standard applications for the CPU/programmer include entering new Ladder programs, editing existing Ladder programs, adjusting and monitoring the pre-set values of timers and counters, monitoring the coils and contact statuses, and start and stop program execution, and it can also be used to access connected peripheral devices such as a PROM writer, audio cassette, and printer. Another important use of the CPU/programmer module is for displaying error codes and diagnostics reports. The IC630MDL302 CPU comes with a built-in lithium battery, which is used for backing up information on the CMOS in the event of a power failure, and this battery can be accessed through a plastic covering at the bottom of the module.
