The IC660BBA103 is a Thermocouple Block of series 90-30 of GE Fanuc PLCs. It has two isolated equal groups of six thermocouple inputs. It can be powered with either 115 VDC or 125 VAC power. It has a capability of working with 24 or 48 VDC since it comes in two versions. The temperature input signal is measured per 10μV, but in certain conditions, accuracy can drop up to 20μV. The block deploys six thermocouple types, each having dissimilar temperature range and accuracy. Temperature range is between the absolute zero and several thousands of Celsius degrees. The measurements can display in Volts, Celsius, or Fahrenheit.
The IC660BBA103 Thermocouple Block has 32 terminals. Input power, bus switching module control, and field wiring devices can connect to inputs 5 to 32 with AWG #22 or #14 wires. Input block power connects to terminals 5 and 6, and bus switching module connects to terminals 7 and 8. There are also six channels where thermocouple wires connect and two remote cold junction connection inputs.
This equipment can provide the system with a wide range of diagnostics. These include internal fault of open wire error in the block, indication that a one of the thermocouples has exceeded its range, and two types of alarms set by the user. Every input can be set to start a high or low alarm. If the alarm is triggered, circuit faults must be cleared.
To present an accurate temperature measurement, the IC660BBA103 thermocouple block combines temperature measurements. Those come from thermocouple volt signals and cold junction compensation. After power is isolated from each input, an optical coupler provides accurate signal isolation. The volt current frequency signal continues to measure the signal during 400ms. During this time, a multiplexer processes cold junction measurements and internal references. This helps to further decrease the chance of error. Cold junction measurements can apply remotely.
The user can calibrate internal references. If there is a difference between the cold junction temperature and the output measurement, it is possible to set an offset. Using a handheld monitor, the operator can use different compensation methods, disable or enable inputs, and set alarms.
