Reflective Memory -- PC RFM to PACSystems RMX

Description

There is one red LED ON at the PC RFM card, but no communications with the PLC IC698RMX016 or IC695RMX128 modules.

After installing the Reflective Memory module and necessary optical cables, the PLC RMX module may still not be communicating with the PC RFM card.

Resolution

The PLC Reflective Memory Module (RMX016 and RMX128) can be configured as a Redundancy Only Link, or a Communications Only Link. They can not function as both at the same time.

There needs to be a slight change to the PLC RMX Module default configuration:

- Open the project in Proficy Machine Edition
- Go to HW configuration
- Locate RMX016 or RMX128 module
- Double-click to open its properties
- Locate "redundant link" entry
- Change this to "Disabled" to allow external communications
- Download the HW configuration to the PLC

The RMX module should now be working as an "ordinary" CMX module, which will now communicate with the RFM card in the PC.

Note that you should purchase a CMX card for PLC communications, as the RMX is designed to support PLC CPU redundancy. However it may be used as described above where CMX stock is not available or to maintain 1 part number for interchangeable spares.

Customer Questions and Answers

  • Question:  What is an IC695RMX128?  Answer:  The IC695RMX128 is a Redundancy Memory Xchange module from the GE Fanuc RX3i Series.
  • Question:  What does IC695RMX128 provide?  Answer:  This module operates as a dedicated link between CPUs in an RX3i Hot Standby CPU Redundancy system.  It also provides a path for transferring data between the 2 redundancy CPUs in the redundant system.
  • Question:  What is reflective memory technology/a reflective memory network?  Answer:  A reflective memory network can contain up to 256 nodes. Each node can be any reflective memory device that is compatible with the 5565 family. So, when data is written to 1 node, all nodes on the network are automatically updated with the new data.
  • Question:  How are the nodes in a reflective memory network connected?  Answer:  Each node is connected in a daisy-chained loop using fiber optic cables. The transmitter of the first node is tied to the receiver of the second which, is tied to the receiver of the third, and so on, until the loop is completed back at the receiver of the first node.
  • Question:  When used as a node, what does the IC695RMX128 do?  Answer:  When used as a node on a reflective memory network, the RMX module provides deterministic sharing of data among PLCs and other computing devices on a high-speed fiber optic network.
  • Question:  When not in use, to which module is the IC695RMX128 functionally identical?  Answer:  IC695RMX128.
  • Question:  What should I do if my IC695RMX128 is not working properly?  Answer:  Your IC695RMX128 may need repair.
