The GE Fanuc’s IC698RMX016 is a 16MB Redundant Memory Xchange for the Rx7I Pacsystem.
Note that in order to meet radiated emission standards, RX7i systems that include more than one Memory Xchange modules have to be installed in a conducting metal enclosure, or equivalent.
The IC698RMX016 initially powers in a non-configured state where its optical transmitter is disabled. The Redundant Memory Xchange module will not operate on a network before the RX7i CPU sends the module a hardware configuration.
The IC698RMX016 Redundancy Memory Xchange Module comes in the RX7i PACSystems series by GE Fanuc Automation. The purpose of this module is to operate as a node on a reflective memory network or as a specific link that attaches 2 CPUs in a redundant system. It is compatible with the 5565 line of memory devices and it can determine the amount of data sharing between a PLC and other computing devices. Each of the nodes in the GE Fanuc Automation IC698RMX016 Redundancy Memory Xchange Module is connected in a daisy-chained loop mechanism by using fiber-optic cables. This connection method consists of connecting the first node to the second node and then the transmitter of the second node is connected to the receiver of the third node and so on until the loop has been connected to the first node and the loop is finally complete.
The GE Fanuc Automation IC698RMX016 Redundancy Memory Xchange Module is meant to be installed in a single slot in the RX7i PACSystems rack it comes with a reflective memory capacity of 16 MB, and the software configuration is performed to the old node parameters to prepare them for the new applications. Besides all of these functions, this module is also network-compatible with the VMIC 5565 reflective memory devices and it can be connected to them through multimode fiber cables that are up to 300 meters long. Some of the accessories included in this catalog to be used with the GE Fanuc Automation IC698RMX016 Redundancy Memory Xchange Module are a redundancy memory module, a control memory module, fiber-optic exchange cables, a lithium battery pack rack fan assembly, and different power supplies that can be used with this module to enhance its functioning.

Reflective Memory -- PC RFM to PACSystems RMX
Description
There is one red LED ON at the PC RFM card, but no communications with the PLC IC698RMX016 or IC695RMX128 modules.
After installing the Reflective Memory module and necessary optical cables, the PLC RMX module may still not be communicating with the PC RFM card.
Resolution
The PLC Reflective Memory Module (RMX016 and RMX128) can be configured as a Redundancy Only Link, or a Communications Only Link. They can not function as both at the same time.
There needs to be a slight change to the PLC RMX Module default configuration:
- Open the project in Proficy Machine Edition
- Go to HW configuration
- Locate RMX016 or RMX128 module
- Double-click to open its properties
- Locate "redundant link" entry
- Change this to "Disabled" to allow external communications
- Download the HW configuration to the PLC
The RMX module should now be working as an "ordinary" CMX module, which will now communicate with the RFM card in the PC.
Note that you should purchase a CMX card for PLC communications, as the RMX is designed to support PLC CPU redundancy. However it may be used as described above where CMX stock is not available or to maintain 1 part number for interchangeable spares.
