Product Description

The GE Fanuc IC693PBM200 is a Master module for the PROFIBUS DP networks. Users can mount the Master module in any Series 90-30 baseplate slot except slot 1 of a modular CPU baseplate.  The Master module allows an IC693 PLC to send and receive I/O data from a PROFIBUS DP network. Among the features are Sync and Freeze modes and LED indicators for both the PROFIBUS-compliant COM and SYS. Users can update the firmware on the master module using the service port.

The Master module supports all standard data rates as well as up to 125 DP slaves. It also supports 244 bytes of input and output for each slave. Configuring the Master module requires specific software. It requires ME Logic Developer PLC programming software and it must be version 3.0 or later. When a user is migrating from the HE693PBM101 PROFIBUS Master Module, they should consider a few issues. Firstly, the slave status area on the IC693PBM200 is 128 points by default – twice the size of the 64 point HE693PBM101. You may need to reduce the size of the slave status area according to the usage of the previous module.

Unlike the HE693PBM101, the IC693PBM200 enters Clear Mode whenever the PLC is not scanning its I/O. Furthermore, the slave status bits are arranged differently in these two modules. The HE693PBM101 arranges bits by the order of appearance in the configuration. On the other hand, the IC693PBM200 arranges bits in order of bus address.  There is a limit to the amount of data that may be exchanged between a CPU and module. For the IC693PBM200, that limit is 3,972 bytes of input data. Input data is the data going from the Master module to the CPU. The limit going in the opposite direction is output data. It has the same limit of 3,972 bytes.

IC693PBM200 To Work as Profibus PA Master

PROFIBUS specifications reference three different protocols to cover a range of industrial requirements:

  • PROFIBUS-DP High speed data communication. DP stands for Decentralized Periphery. In practice, the majority of slave applications are DP applications.
  • PROFIBUS-FMS Object oriented general-purpose data communication. FMS stands for FieldBus Message Specification. FMS protocol devices may exchange data on the same bus used for DP devices.
  • PROFIBUS-PA Meets requirements for intrinsic safety and non-intrinsic safety areas and includes bus powered field devices.

IC693PBM200 is Profibus Master module in GE S9030 Series PLC, but it only can be Profibus DP mater, can't be Profibus PA Master.

Pepperl Fuchs (http://www.pepperl-fuchs.com/) provided a DP-PA coupler, that can convert IC693PBM200 from DP Master to PA Master.

Adding Versapoint Modules in a Profibus Network by Using Machine Edition

To add a versapoint profibus in a 9030 or 9070 PLC system refer to the following:

  1. Need to have one profibus master configured on 9030 or 9070 rack.  Configure the Station ID, network settings for this master module, i.e. using IC693PBM200 as master on 9030 rack.
  2. Add a versapoint profibus slave, If you are adding a profibus slave which is not on the list, you need to load GSD file for this slave by Click on ?Have Disk..?. and Configure the station ID , make sure the network setting should be exactly same as master module.
  3. After the profibus NIU configuration, configure the I/O modules in this slave configuration.

And all the data transferred from slave will map to the master PLC system memory configured.
