General: The IC693PCM301 is a Programmable Coprocessor Module (PCM) manufactured by GE Fanuc Automation North America, Inc. It is a high-functioning microcomputer that is compatible with the Series 90-30 Modular CPUs (Programmable Logic Controller system). The programming languages supported by the IC693PCM301 include Modbus RTU, GE Fanuc CCM protocols, MegaBasic and C. This version of the PCM has a total memory of 192K and a user MegaBasic memory of 47K.
Any CPU baseplate slot can host a IC693PCM301 with the exception of the CPU module's slot 1. Furthermore, a PCM doesn't function within the Expansion, Remote racks, or the Embedded CPU (CPU311, 313, or 323) rack.
Specific: The IC693PCM301 can be programmed to operate as a one or two independent CCM ports, a CCM port, and a MegaBasic application using one serial port or a MegaBasic application using one or both serial ports. These modules are used for communicating with programming terminals, CRTs, bar code readers, scales, printers, ASCII devices, RTU master devices, etc.
Ports: The two ports available on the IC693PCM301 are accessed by a common connector at the front of the model. IC693CBL305 Wye cables split out the two PCM port connections from the single connector on the faceplate. The module has three LED indicator lights. While one flashes to convey the condition of the module, the other two LED lights function to indicate activity in the respective ports. The latter group of indicators are subject to configuration by the user.
Restart Pusbutton: The restart pushbutton of the IC693PCM301 allows the user to change the mode of the module between "Run" and "Program". IC690CBL701/702/705 cables provide a direct RS-232 connection between the PCM and various programmers’ serial ports. These cables are not supplied with the PCM modules.
Memory: The RAM memory backup is handled by a lithium battery that is mounted on the inner side of the module's faceplate. It requires connection prior to instalment. The battery is to remain connected as long as the program in RAM memory is to be stored. It is advisable to disconnect and remove the battery during long term storage.

The GE Fanuc IC693PCM301 Programmable Coprocessor Module (PCM) is an industrial automation computer manufactured by GE Fanuc as a memory and processing power expansion device for programmable logic controllers from GE Series 90-30. The total memory capacity of this coprocessor module is 192 KB and there is a dedicated MegaBasic memory with a capacity of 47 KB. The GE Fanuc IC693PCM301 Programmable Coprocessor Module can be installed by insertion in any available slot in a Series 90-30 backplane except for the first slot that is specifically designated for the system’s central processing unit or main computer board. It is not designed to work with additional expansion racks, but only with the main PLC backplane. Communication with serial networks and devices is possible by using built-in serial ports for the Modbus RTU and GE Fanuc CCM communication protocols.
The GE Fanuc IC693PCM301 Programmable Coprocessor Module (PCM) is able to keep its random access memory contents safe during power interruptions by means of a backup lithium battery. Communication with handheld configuration devices is possible, but it requires separately sold IC690CBL701/702/705 serial communication cables. The GE Fanuc IC693PCM301 Programmable Coprocessor Module has a rated current consumption of 425 milliamps when it is connected to a 5 Volts DC power supply. One of the most notable features of this PCM is that it can connect to serial devices such as serial printers, bar code readers, industrial scales, ASCII devices, or RTU master devices, in order to integrate them into the user control platform. There are 2 user modes available: the “RUN” mode for normal operation and the “PROGRAM” mode when changes to the control logic need to be made.

To Format and Write To PCM301 EPROM Megabasic
Description
Using the EPROM in a PCM must be formatted in Megabasic.
Resolution
J (Format EEROM device)
Format: J ROM
This command causes an electrically erasable ROM (EEROM) device installed in a PCM 301 to be erased and formatted as the file device ROM:. Once the EEROM has been formatted, files can be loaded to and run from it just as they are in RAM:. Note that only the PCM 301, IC693PCM301, supports an optional EEROM device. Attempting to format an invalid device produces this message: Unknown device
Save rom: MyProg.pgm
Saves the program to the EEROM.
PLC90/30 Debugging a PCM Task Using TERMF Software
Description
Debugging a PCM Task using TERMF Software
Resolution
PCM Support Software (TERMF), revision 1.00 or later, is required for terminal emulation and file transfer between the PC and PCM. (Series 90-30 PCM model IC693PCM300, IC693PCM301, IC693PCM311)
PCM firmware version 3.00 does not include a runtime debugger. The best debug method currently available is to use printf statements to trace program execution and display program data. Applications which use both PCM serial ports for communication can log execution trace data to a PCM file or named memory module.
Series 90-70 PCM applications can log trace data to a reserved memory block in VME dual port memory. A second PCM can be used to read the data in VME master mode. When an application task locks up, the PCM task state dump facility can be used to diagnose the cause. For more information on this topic, see "Dumping PCM task state information" in GFK-0771A chapter 7, Multitasking.
Some developers of PCM C applications use hardware debuggers. See "Debugging Multiple Tasks" in chapter 7, Multitasking, for more information on hardware debuggers.
PLC90-30 Running a PCM Task Using TERMF Software
PCM Support Software (TERMF), revision 1.00 or later, is required for terminal emulation and file transfer between the PC and PCM. (Series 90-30 PCM model IC693PCM300, IC693PCM301, IC693PCM311)
The PCM R (Run) command is used to execute an .EXE file as a PCM task.
At the PCM prompt, type: R HELLO.EXE.
The file extension ".EXE" is required by the PCM command interpreter. When the program is executed, TERMF will display its output:
Hello, world!
Running as task of hex under VTOS version 3.00.
The Run command can also be used to load PCM programs from your PC. If the specified .EXE file has not been stored to the PCM, the command interpreter will ask TERMF to look in the current PC directory. If the file is found there, it will be loaded and then run.
