Manufactured by GE Automation, the IC697CPU732 is a single slot programmable controller CPU capable of controlling industrial equipment and processes in real time. To communicate with I/O and “smart option” modules, this device uses a rack-mounted connection backplane. This device has a 12 MHz 80C186 microprocessor capable of floating point decimal calculations at speeds of 0.4 microseconds per Boolean function. Up to 8K analog I/O is supported by this device, along with any mixture of 512 inputs and outputs.
The IC697CPU732 supports IC697 LAN interface modules, IC697 discrete and analog I/O modules, multiple coprocessor and communications modules, I/O Link Interface modules, and bus controllers for IC66* modules. Configuration of this device is accomplished by connecting the module to a programmer computer and running IC641 programming software. DIP switches and jumpers are not used in the configuration of this product. For security, configuration settings are password protected. User memory, programming data, the calendar, and the clock are maintained by a lithium CMOS battery.
This device supports an 8-wire serial multidrop configuration. The number of programmable controllers allowed in this configuration is determined by cable length. A 24 AWG 30V serial cable should be used in this setup to connect the controller to a computer. Warning: Terminal strips or alternate connectors should not be used in the transmission line for a multidrop configuration. To operate the IC697CPU732, use either the three-position switch or an attached computer running IC641 programming software.Refer to the product manual for proper installation instructions. Turn off power before connecting the device. Place the three-position operation switch in the STOP position. Place the battery in one of the battery connection slots. Connect the device to slot 1. Power on the device.
