The IC697MDL252 Discrete Input Module is manufactured by GE for the Series 90-70.
Highlights include four isolated groups of eight points for a total of 32 points, a 20 ms input filter, and proximity switch compatibility. This 12 VAC module works with an array of input devices, including pushbuttons, limit switches, selector switches, and electronic proximity switches (2 or 3 wire type). Due to the IC697MDL252 module’s isolated points, each group can be used on a separate phase of the AC supply. Input is resistive with current-voltage characteristics and meet IEC standard (type 1).

The IC697MDL252 uses LED indicators to identify the ON-OFF status of each point on the logic/PLC side of the circuit. These are located at the top of the module. The IC697MDL252 module is keyed mechanically to ensure appropriate replacement with a similar type in the field. The user can configure I/O references free of jumpers or DIP switches. Configuration is completed via MS-DOS or Windows programming software (running on Windows 95 or Windows NT over Ethernet TCP/IP or through the SNP port). This software configuration function is preinstalled on the device.

The IC697MDL252 module’s input circuitry provides enough current to guarantee reliable operation of the switching device. Input current is typically 10mA in the ON state and accepts a maximum of 2 mA leakage current in the OFF state without turning on. Three-wire proximity switches are used since they provide low voltage drop in the ON state and low leakage current in the OFF state. Two-wire proximity switches pull power from the signal connections. This means both the ON state voltage and the OFF state leakage current are higher than for 3-wire devices. This module is designed to be compatible with most of two–wire devices, but each device type should be carefully checked for compatibility in both the ON and OFF states.
