The IC200CMM020 is a Versamax Serial Communications module designed by GE. The IC200CMM020 functions as Modbus RTU Master in a Versamax I/O station controlled by a Genius Network Interface Unit. Serial communication modules such as the IC200CMM020 can be installed at any location in the I/O station. Each I/O station may serve up to two serial communication modules.
External devices can receive 5V power via the serial port. There is roughly 100mA of power that is accessible for external devices. This may vary depending on how the serial device is wired. The current draw relies on serial line terminations, duplex mode, serial line activity, and the use of external adapters that may need an extra 5V power. The maximum load amount is 200mA; an internal current limit switch stops damage and locks down communication and external power flow as needed. Once the module’s LED turns amber, the overdraw conditions must be recognized by the user, and when the condition is resolved, communication and power flow will resume.
Configuration of the IC200CMM020 module is done by using the GENERIC-COMM, a feature of the programmer. The data length of the module’s default Reference Addresses for %AI and %AQ data must be changed from the initial length of zero before communication between the module and Ethernet NIU can occur. Until a valid configuration is received, the IC200CMM020 cannot communicate on the serial network. The Modbus RTU Master protocol is supported by the IC200CMM020 module. For operation as a Master, the module must receive commands from a remote host. Commands are exchanged between the module and remote host by the input and output memory areas of the I/O station’s Genius NIU.
